IKEA to open city centre store in Hammersmith

IKEA UK plans to open a new small store format at Hammersmith in West London.

Due to launch in Spring 2021, the shop will sell the brand’s home furnishing range, with all products available to buy from the store for home delivery, and over 2,000 home furnishing accessories available to take away on the same day. This will be the first time that IKEA’s home furnishing accessories will be available to buy on the UK high street.

The outlet will be located in Hammersmith’s Kings Mall Shopping Centre on Kings Street, which has been newly acquired by Ingka Centres (part of the Ingka Group, which owns and operates IKEA retail under franchise agreements) as part of a £170 million investment.

Last year, IKEA UK opened its most sustainable store to date in Greenwich, and two Planning Studios in London on Tottenham Court Road and Bromley, which specialise in providing advice and planning for kitchen and bedrooms. There are also four London stores in Wembley, Tottenham, Croydon and Lakeside.

The new shop in Hammersmith will mark a whole new IKEA format for the city. Peter Jelkeby, country retail manager and chief sustainability officer of IKEA UK & Ireland, said: “Our plan to open a new city centre store in Hammersmith is an exciting next step, as we continue to respond to people’s evolving shopping habits, making IKEA more convenient than ever before.

“People have been eager to see our affordable range and access our ‘life at home’ expertise on the high street for some time. So we’re excited to introduce a unique IKEA store to the vibrant local community in Hammersmith and London.”
