Home furnishings retailer IKEA is opening the doors of its new Order and Collection Point in London on Wednesday (August 31).
Centrally located in Westfield Stratford City shopping mall, the 900sq m unit has been designed to bring the IKEA range closer to more customers. It will be the fourth of its kind to open in the UK this year and the first to open in London.
Due to its size, the Order and Collection Point will not carry the full product range to take home but customers will be able to order from the IKEA online range for home delivery or for collection at the collection point.
In addition, a small range of selected ‘market hall’ items will be available for customers to take home on the day of their visit.
Acting primarily as a planning studio to plan complex purchases such as kitchens, wardrobes and sofas, it will also feature IKEA room sets.
IKEA Westfield Stratford Order and Collection Point manager Mirco Righetto said: “We’re delighted to be bringing this unique version of IKEA to Westfield.
“Today, customers in the region shop with us online but they have to travel to other London stores to see the range or get advice from our co-workers. Located within five minutes of the train stations and close to major bus routes, IKEA Westfield Stratford City Order and Collection Point will be easy to access by public transport – something that we know is important to many customers who live in London.
“We have had a lot of positive feedback for bringing IKEA to the area, so we expect the first few weeks will be quite busy. We look forward to welcoming new and existing customers to the Order and Collection Point over the coming months.”
Myf Ryan, chief marketing Officer, of Westfield UK & Europe said: “With over 47 million visitors to Westfield Stratford City each year, we have no doubt that the accessibility of this new IKEA store will be a major draw for our customers.
“Westfield shoppers are increasingly looking for affordable, authentic and industry leading homes’ selections and we’re delighted that IKEA is joining our existing retailers in widening this offer.”
As part of its expansion plans to make IKEA more accessible to many more people, the Swedish retailer will be trialing a number of similar Order and Collection Points across the UK. The first opened in Norwich last November, the second opened in Aberdeen in May and a third in Birmingham city centre on August 18.
