Homewares drive profit boost at John Lewis

The £3bn-turnover store chain, which will update its results for the six months to July on September 16, will announce profits returning to 2008 levels after they were cut by half to just £20m last year.

Key to the improvement is homewares, which deliver over a third of the department stores’ business: homewares sales were up 17% on the same period in 2009.

Fashion sales, responsible for another third of sales, also put on significant growth, up 19%.
