John Lewis described its sales for last week to January 14, (which was the last week in Clearance), as ‘good’, totalling £89.1 million: up 3.7% year-on-year.
The department store group’s director of trading operations Dave Suddock commented: “Home Sales were +3.8% year-on-year, again driven by Clearance. Sales of ‘Special buy’ products were significantly up, as were sales of home accessories, gifts and furniture.
“Electrical and Home Technology was our strongest category +6.9% year-on-year, and sales of audio and smart home products were up 28.4%, driven largely by the popularity of headphones.
“Fashion sales were down -0.1% year-on-year. Beauty, Wellbeing and Leisure performed the strongest within the category with sales up 5.6%.”
