Home sales set the pace at John Lewis

The Home directorate set the pace with sales leaping by one-third on last year, according to John Lewis managing director Andy Street. “Within the directorate all areas prospered, but furniture stole the headlines with more than a 50% advance,” he said. Fashion took second spot with the start of the school holidays propelling childrenswear to 25% growth.

He added that the momentum was similarly split between ‘bricks’ and ‘clicks’. Online passed the 25% mark, while shops recorded over 16% growth with High Wycombe, all the John Lewis At Home shops, and Cribbs Causeway on “particularly fine form”.

He concluded: “The result lifted the score for the half year to 9.4%, and therefore with just one week to go, we can conclude that it’s been another positive half for John Lewis. We go into the all important second half with hard won momentum.”
