Home sales drop 5.5% at John Lewis

Total sales for John Lewis for last week (to Saturday September 2) were down 0.5% to £87.1 million.

The department store group’s operations director Dino Rocos said Home sales dropped 5.5%, partly due to annualising of price match promotions in the same week last year. But sales of Beds and Outdoor Living were up 4.7% and 8.5% respectively.

Dino noted that Electricals & Home Technology had a strong week with sales up 2.8%. There were ‘standout’ results from small electricals and vision, up 6.9% and 5.8% respectively.

Wearable technology also had a strong week (up 52%), as did Apple, driven by strong MacBook sales.

Fashion sales were up 1% with a strong performance in Beauty.
