Home sales down 9.3% at John Lewis

Total sales were down 2.8% at John Lewis & Partners last week (to Saturday January 18) as customers shopped the final week of Clearance.

The department store group’s trading director Simon Coble commented: “Home sales were particularly impacted in the week, down 9.3%, as we sold through many lines to clear space for Spring Summer 2020 product.

“Electrical and home technology sales were up 1.4%. We saw positive sales of computers due to new product launches and Windows 7 reaching ‘End of Life’, which led to customers upgrading their existing devices.

“Fashion sales were down 2.8% overall, again due to lines sold through in Clearance. But sales of menswear were up 7.3% as we price-matched competitor promotions.”
