The department store group said the performance was due to warmer weather impacting sales of new season products.
John Lewis & Partners trading director Simon Coble commented: “Home sales were down 13.4%. However, our own-brand House range continues to perform well as customers enjoyed shopping for Off to University items.
“Electrical and Home Technology sales were down 11.4%, but demand for new communications technology product launches picked up over the weekend.
“Fashion sales were down 12.3%; however Beauty sales were up 0.7% as we price-matched a competitor’s promotion.”
