Habitat MD Clare Askem steps down

Habitat managing director Clare Askem has resigned from her role at the homeware chain after eight years.

In a statement, Habitat said: ‘Clare has decided that the time is right to leave the business and Sainsbury’s commercial director of general merchandise & clothing James Brown will take on responsibility for Habitat.’

James commented: “I’d like to thank Clare for her contribution to building the Habitat brand over many years, most recently as managing director. We wish her all the best for the future.”

In 2006, Clare joined Home Retail Group as head of strategic development, and was promoted to director of strategic development in 2009.

Prior to this, she spent six years at BET plc followed by five years at Dixons Carphone, starting as group advertising director and progressing to buying & operations director of the entertainment division.
