At the event, which took place from October 13-15 at the Defence Academy in Shrivenham, the Royal Navy, RAF and Army went head to head in a series of live cooking challenges over a three-day period.

Each competition gave the armed forces a chance to show their culinary skills by working under pressured cooking conditions to serve up different dishes for special guests and judges, who in turn awarded points to the teams for their knife, cooking and cleaning skills. And for the first time in 14 years the Royal Navy team – whose first choice of knife was Global – had the cutting edge and sailed into first place.

Global Knives UK brand manager Sophie Newton said: “I’m really pleased and proud of the Royal Navy for winning the Tri-Service Culinary Championship. It’s great to sponsor such a talented team of chefs. After seeing and tasting the fantastic dishes, they certainly deserved to come first. It’s also great to see that the Navy won top marks for their knife skills with the help of using Global knives. This really does prove that having the combination of a great chef using a premium knife brand like Global can make a difference! Well done to all of the chefs and teams in the Navy.”

Global Knives UK also sponsored the Royal Navy in the field Cookery Competitions in the summer; the equivalent to a semi-final to choose the teams good enough to go forward for the Tri-Service Culinary Championships.
