GIA picks Barton Grange cookshop as national winner

The UK’s Cook Shop at Barton Grange has been named as one of the prestigious Global Innovation Award winners of 2011/12.
The GIA programme, organised by The International Home + Housewares Show and International Housewares Association, annually honours 25 outstanding housewares and homewares retailers from 23 countries around the globe.

The competition is structured on a two-tier level, national and global, with the judges taking into account vision and strategy, store design and layout, visual merchandising, displays and window displays, marketing, advertising and promotions, customer service, staff training and innovation.

Each national GIA winner is invited to the International Home + Housewares Show in Chicago where the judges then select up to five GIA Global Honorees and the winner of the Martin M Pegler Award for Excellence in Visual Merchandising.

Along with The Cook Shop at Barton Grange, the national winners are: Argentina, Kitchen Company; Australia, Burnt Orange; Austria, T&T Hinterholzer; Belgium, Doen; Brazil, Doural; Canada, Kitchen Therapy; China, Hong-Gu-Xuan Furniture Company; Colombia, Distribuidora Rayco; Denmark, Normann Copenhagen; France, Ambiance & Styles; Germany, Güterbahnhof 12 Das Wohnmagazin; Italy, Morandin Regali; Japan, TBD; Netherlands, De Bijenkorf; New Zealand, Table Pride; Poland, home&you; Russia, Krishkin Dom; Sweden, NK Glas, Porslin & Kök; Switzerland, von Siebenthal für Tisch & Küche;

Turkey, Tefal Shop; Uruguay, Pórtico; and three from the USA – Cutlery And More, Great News! Cookware & Cooking School and Sur La Table.

During the 2012 International Home + Housewares Show, which runs March 10 to 13, the winners and Global Honorees will be honoured at a special awards dinner

Other GIA highlights at the show will include a showcase in the Hall of Global Innovation in Lakeside Center Lobby, where visuals of the national winners’ award-winning store design and branding ideas and examples of visual merchandising and innovative displays will be on show.

And on March 12, GIA expert juror Martin M Pegler will conduct a special session in the Innovation Theater on The Retail Store as Theater: Adding the Entertainment Experience to Selling through Visual Merchandising & Display.
