GfK: internet boosts hot beverage maker sales

Sales of hot beverage makers are continuing to grow – and online purchases are dominating value sales, according to the latest figures from GfK Retail and Technology UK.

GfK: internet boosts hot beverage maker sales

The 12 months to June 2012 saw a volume increase of nearly 11% compared with the previous year, and a 24% growth in value over the same period.

Most volume growth has come from online purchases, which have increased by 53% over the year and now make up over a quarter of all sales.

An increasing number of consumers are choosing espresso over filter when purchasing a coffee machine, GfK says. Espresso machines now account for over half of all volume and come with significantly higher price tags. Consequently, these sales equate to over three-quarters of value.

The hot beverage makers market is expected to continue to grow over the next 12 months, with the more premium portioned and full automatic machines driving value sales.
