Total sales at John Lewis for last week (to Saturday July 29) were up 2.5% to £78.6 million.
Both online and branches saw an uplift, with online sales up 7.2%.
The department store group’s director of retail operations development Simon Russell said the Home category had “a strong week”, with sales up 7.7% on the same week last year.
He commented that customers were investing in their bedrooms, with sales in bed linen up 19.2% and beds & bedroom up 17.5%, driven by the last week of Special Buy sales.”
In contrast, EHT (Electrical and Home Technology) sales were down 0.5%. However, sales of DIY home products, such as the Honda Petrol Ride on Lawnmower, soared 67%.
Fashion sales were up 1.5%. But the biggest increase overall was in Beauty, Wellbeing and Leisure, where sales rose by 5.8%.
