Easter baking range sales up 49% at Waitrose

Total sales excluding fuel for Waitrose last week (to Saturday March 31) were 19% higher than the same week last year, with comparisons distorted by the fall of the Easter weekend.

The strongest performing categories were linked with entertaining family and friends at home over the Easter weekend, including snacking foods, beers, wines and soft drinks.

The supermarket chain’s IT director Mike Sackman said: “Many customers took the opportunity of more time at home with the family to do some baking – our Easter baking range was up by 49% compared to last year’s sales. Our household cleaning and washing up ranges also saw a boost, as people prepared for guests.”
