Homewares chain Dwell is said to be interested in buying beleaguered rival Habitat.

Dwell could emerge as Habitat buyer

HousewaresLive.net reported last week that Habitat’s owner, ICAF Antillen, had instigated a review of the chain, which has been racking up losses, with a possible view to selling it on. Now, Dwell has expressed an interest in the stores, which could accelerate its plans to grow the business.

Dwell was launched in 2003 and now has 12 stores and four concessions. It increased turnover by more than 50% in the year to January 2009, to £24.8m. It wants to grow the chain to 45 stores in five years.

Dwell sells a limited range of kitchenware and tableware alongside its furniture and lighting.
