Teflon manufacturer DuPont is gearing up for its 2013 Diamond Standard Awards, which recognise excellence amongst young chefs.
The awards are aimed at high-calibre students in the 16 to 20 age group who are studying at college or for A-levels in home economics, health and food technology or catering-related disciplines.
Contestants will be required to create a healthy and aesthetic meal for a fine dining menu. Recipes uploaded onto the website by entrants will be judged regionally, and the regional winners will then be invited to take part in a national cook-off in March 2013.
The winning team and teacher at the cook-off final will receive trophies and prizes and the students will be offered a work placement opportunity. Their schools will also receive cooking utensils, cookware and bakeware products featuring DuPont Teflon non-stick coatings, as well as the UK Champion’s Trophy and substantial cash prize.
Along with DuPont, the Diamond Standard Awards are sponsored by Europasonic, Tesco, Crealys, NoStik and LeChef Uniforms, while the judging panel is led by celebrity chef Lesley Waters.
