Industry veteran David Peace retired in 2013 after a 40-year career in the housewares and electrical business – but is now back in the sector.
He told www.HousewaresLive.net: “Despite being retired now, I’m frequently asked for help by international companies placing products and distributors together (a little like a marriage arranger!).” He is currently helping a distributor based in the Middle East. It has an operating base in Dubai, with a full sales and marketing organisation selling into the markets of UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Iran. David said the company is looking to broaden its base by working with “maybe one or two partners in the housewares sector who have yet to achieve ambitions in the region”.
He commented: “Growth in this region is well documented and if you are not there, this might be an opportunity for you. I’ve known this company for a long while and they offer an opportunity for those UK companies who are not yet making hay whilst the sun shines in this region.” Interested parties should contact David on 01908 321238 or 07831 309550 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Though known to most in the industry through his long involvement with Meyer, Peace started out as a professional musician. After some years he joined House of Fraser on its management training programme, and this was followed by periods with Carron, Electrolux and Tower Housewares. He then worked for 25 years in different roles for Meyer Group, latterly as sales director. After moving to take over export sales, he set up his own business some seven years ago, looking after export sales for not only Meyer but Typhoon, Challs, Nordicware and Imperial. He has also been involved with market reports for UKTI.
Peace was a board member of the British Hardware & Housewares Manufacturers Association (now British Home Enhancement Trade Association), and president for two years.
