Cooking and dining sales up at John Lewis

John Lewis reported total sales of £78.2m last week (to March 5), up 7.7% on last year.

Mother’s Day in particular helped drive strong sales in both Fashion and Home directorates. Home was up 11.7% on last year, with Gifting one of the star performers.

Cooking and Dining also saw positive growth, up 14.2%, with roasting products up 54% as people enjoyed a traditional Sunday roast on Mother’s Day.

EHT (Electricals & Home Technology) ended the week up 2.3% on last year, with a strong set of results from Audio.

John Lewis director of merchandising operations Jon Williams commented: “This week our customers look forward to Easter, which is now appearing in our top search terms online.”
