Cook and dine sales up 3.2% at John Lewis

Total sales for John Lewis for last week (to Saturday August 5) were up 5.5% to £77.7 million.

The department store group’s director of commercial operations Sean Allam described the result as “a good start to the half, with both shops and online seeing an uplift in sales on last year”.

Home sales “had a good week”, with sales up 5.8%. Textiles and home accessories enjoyed strong growth, with sales up 9.3% on last year. Bedroom furniture and mattresses were also up 9%, and cook and dine sales rose 3.2%.

EHT (Electricals & Home Technology) sales were also up, rising by 6.9%. Vision sales rose 11%, driven by new launches, with sales of premium cameras and drones up “as customers took the opportunity to capture memories of their summer holidays”.

Fashion sales were up 4.5%, driven by a strong performance in beauty, wellbeing and leisure, with fragrance a stand-out.
