Chicago’s International Home + Housewares Show in March is promising visitors insights into everything from trends and design to merchandising, sustainability and consumer preferences, through its educational programme.

With almost two dozen free sessions, the programme aims to give a detailed picture of issues affecting consumers’ willingness to spend on household items now and in the near future.

Amongst the highlights will be two seminars given by Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. One will cover Style, Substance and Color: Major Trends and Directions, while the second will investigate The Color of the Year: Where Does It Come From?

Tom Mirabile, SVP of Global Trend & Design, Lifetime Brands, will talk on Top Trends 2013 – Staying Relevant to the Unpredictable Consumer, while independent analyst and trend forecaster Asko Ahokas will deliver Practical & Poetic – Global Trend Insights for 2013/2014.

Visitors can also get help with their merchandising, with Martin M Pegler of Retail Design International’s session, All You Wanted to Know About Visual Merchandising But Were Afraid It Would Cost Too Much.

Retailers can also benefit from free consulting with retail experts at the show: the 45-minute sessions cover topics from visual merchandising to social media strategies.

The International Home + Housewares Show runs at Chicago’s McCormick Place March 2 to 5.
