Channel 4 to cook up My ‘Kitchen Rules UK’

Channel 4 is set to uncover Britain’s most talented home cooks, having commissioned ‘My Kitchen Rules UK’ from Australia’s 7Wonder Productions.

Hosted by Steve Jones, the series is based on the knockout success of Australia’s ‘My Kitchen Rules’. In the competitive elimination format, cooking duos create pop-up restaurants in their own homes for the judges and rival contestants to savour, with the chance to win a a £10,000 prize and the title of Britain’s Best Home Chef.

Host and co-judge Steve Jones said: “This show is about real people making really great food; showcasing the very best of regional produce and pride in local dishes. Britain has got such a rich and diverse food heritage and I can’t wait to get my teeth into it.”

Executive producer Eve Kay added: “Pop-up restaurants are the latest addition to the UK’s ongoing food revolution and a brilliant way for amateur chefs to show off their cooking skills and passion for food. An entertaining national competition, pitching different regions against each other, will bring out the best in British food and should discover exciting new food talent.”

The series has been commissioned by Syeda Irtizaali, commissioning editor, entertainment, for Channel 4 daytime. It is set to air later this year. Syeda said: “We’re delighted to be bringing our own distinct version of this highly successful Australian series to Channel 4 with the brilliant Steve Jones at the helm, alongside top chef names.

“‘My Kitchen Rules UK’ will inject real glamour, entertainment and competitive edge into the world of Britain’s greatest home chefs, as we ask: ‘Could you take the pressure of transforming your home into a five star restaurant for the night?’”

It’s not the first time that ‘My Kitchen Rules’ has been on British TV. In 2014 Sky Living HD took on the show, fronted by celebrity Lorraine Pascale and chef Jason Atherton.
