Stephen Robertson has been appointed to succeed Kevin Hawkins as director general of the British Retail Consortium.

Stephen Robertson has been appointed to succeed Kevin Hawkins as director general of the British Retail Consortium.
Earlier this year Robertson stepped down from the retail board at Woolworths, where he was marketing director.

He served for seven years in the same role at B&Q before leading the acquisition of Screwfix Direct, which he then chaired. He went on to become director of ccommunications at Kingfisher.

His career has also included marketing director at WHSmith and marketing roles within Mars, Unilever and Alberto-Culver.

Since 2005 Robertson has been a member of the board as a non-executive director at Fresca Group, a leading supplier of fresh produce to major UK supermarkets. He is a former chairman, and now Fellow, of the Marketing Society.
