Former John Lewis managing director Luke Mayhew is the new chairman of the British Retail Consortium.
Mayhew was at the John Lewis helm for five years and on the board of John Lewis Partnership for 13.
He is currently chairman of Pets at Home and a non-executive Director of WH Smith.
Mayhew started his career at the Department of Trade and Industry, and has also held senior positions with British Airways and Thomas Cook.
Commenting on the appointment, BRC director general Stephen Robertson said: “Luke brings a wide background of retail leadership together with an excellent understanding of how government and the media work.”
Luke Mayhew succeeds Sir Geoff Mulcahy.
