Bira delivers 'Stax' of extra choice to members

Stax Trade Centres, with its sister company Wishart, is one of the UK’s leading non-food wholesalers, with six depots offering a delivered operation spanning the UK and Northern Ireland.

The group has a stockholding of over £17m at any one time across a range of some 40,000 products, encompassing housewares, tools, DIY, hardware, gardening, electrical, bathrooms, plumbing, kitchens, building and homeware. Stax also has a collection of own brand ranges including Supa, Ambassador, Glenwear and Picardy.

Stax joint managing director David Hibbert commented: “Both bira and Stax have the same mission: to provide total support to the independent retailer. This is a perfect example of the industry working together to achieve that. It’s a win-win situation, with the independent retailer getting a great deal.”

Paul Woolley, bira direct managing director, said: “When independent retailers band together through organisations like bira, and work closely with responsible wholesalers like Stax, they can operate in the industry from a position of strength. The arrangement with Stax is a real plus for our members, who will definitely be better off as a result, gaining a wider choice in sourcing delivered product.”

Membership of bira is open to independent retailers across the UK from single outlets to small chains, department stores, dealers and merchants. Bira comprises six divisional trade associations across a range of industry sectors including the British Hardware Federation (BHF) and the Cookshop and Housewares Association (CHA).
