BHETA to provide expert advice on competition law

BHETA is hosting a webinar on February 9th designed to help members ensure that their training on due diligence regarding competition law is fully up to speed.  Presented by Competition Law Consultant, Vivienne Robinson, the event will start at 10:30am.

Including a brief introduction to competition law, the webinar will cover the rules themselves and what they seek to achieve, the severe penalties for non-compliance and the types of behaviour typically being caught.  This is aimed at providing a better understanding of the problems that occur because of inappropriate contact and cooperation with competitors, suppliers, and retailers, particularly around pricing.  Breaking the rules can incur fines of up to 10% of turnover, as well as criminal sanctions for individuals.

Vivienne Robinson is a solicitor who specialises in competition law. She has worked in the City of London and Washington DC, having obtained her law degree from Cambridge University and a Masters in European Law from Brussels University.  She went on to set up her own law firm, Vivienne Robinson Solicitors which advises exclusively on competition law and how to obtain merger clearances.

BHETA marketing director, Steve Richardson, said: “Competition law is relevant to all companies and can seem confusing to non-experts.  Moreover, the penalties for non-compliance can be severe. To protect colleagues and businesses, it is vital that all employees regularly have refresher training on what you can and can’t do when conducting business relationships – particularly around gifts, hospitality, confidentiality, and fair competition. I know that several BHETA members are making this session mandatory for all their commercial teams.”
