BHETA to hold Meet The Buyer Day with Wilko

The British Home Enhancement Trade Association (BHETA) is to host a Meet The Buyer day next month with high street chain Wilko.

The event will be exclusive to BHETA members and will take place on Tuesday March 22 at the Clumber Park Hotel, near Worksop in Nottinghamshire.

Wilko is a high street variety retailer selling household, DIY and homeware goods, including own-brand products, with over 380 stores and more than four million customers visiting every week.

Wilko says it is particularly looking to engage with: new or existing suppliers who are able to identify and propose new and innovative core range listing opportunities for implementation for Spring/Summer2017; and/or suppliers who are able to suggest immediate promotional opportunities that offer Wilko’s customers ‘outstanding value’.

The brief is aimed at all sizes of supplier from large players to one man bands. On the day, there will be senior and/or assistant buyer representation from Wilko’s core product categories including kitchen, electrical appliances, housewares, storage, bathroom, DIY and decorating.

Participating suppliers will be allocated a 20-minute appointment with the relevant buyers. A maximum of two people from each company will be allowed. For those suppliers wishing to present a Spring/Summer 2017 range review proposal, a template for the presentation has been agreed with Wilko to ensure that the limited time is put to maximum use. Wilko buyers anticipate that suppliers will visit a Wilko store prior to the event.

BHETA housewares director Will Jones explained: “This is a unique opportunity for existing and potential Wilkinson suppliers and as such, is sure to attract a big response.

“There will also be a limit to the number of people that can be accommodated on the day. We will do our utmost to allocate times to all interested members but it may be necessary to select participants by lottery, with a view to securing a further event to accommodate the unsuccessful parties as early as possible.”

To offset the cost of the day, BHETA will need to charge members a nominal fee of £95 + VAT per company and bookings need to be received no later than Wednesday March 9.

BHETA executive chairman David Smyth commented: “This event provides a valuable chance for all companies – large or small – to meet and talk to a knowledgeable and receptive team hungry for new ideas and products. We are delighted to be working with Wilko.”
