BHETA proposes name for new federation

The British Home Enhancement Trade Association has released a possible name for the new federation to be formed through its merger with the British Jewellery, Giftware & Finishing Federation.
The two bodies say that the new “super federation” is likely to be called the British Federation of Trade Associations, though no final decision has yet been made.

The generalised name would open the way for more trade associations to join the new federation in due course, to further strengthen its voice.

Speaking in London this week, vice president of the BJGF Federation, David Metcalfe, said the two organisations wanted to encourage more trade bodies to come under the umbrella of the federation.

“But we’d be selective in order to protect synergy,” he stressed.

The merger, which follows a 95% vote in favour from BHETA members, is likely to be completed in June. Behind the move lies the desire to create a more powerful lobbying voice, stronger representation at government level and more member benefits.

The two organisations will remain autonomous and their boards will be maintained at individual association level.
