BHETA and bira to tussle it out on the turf

Two housewares trade associations – bira and BHETA – are coming together to host a ‘friendly but competitive networking, business and social occasion’.

The event, called ‘Tussle on the Turf’, is a golf competition which will be held on Wednesday July 20 at The Welcombe Golf Club in in Stratford-upon-Avon.

DIY, hardware and cookshop retailer members of bira (British Independent Retailers Association) will battle it out with DIY, hardware and housewares supplier members of BHETA (British Home Enhancement Trade Association).

The Welcombe championship standard 18-hole course is set in 157 acres of Warwickshire countryside: Having hosted the European Seniors Tour Ryder Event in 1998, it provides a tricky round for players of all abilities.

Bira said newly elected bira national president Vin Vara revealed this initiative at last month’s bira High Street Conference ‘as a mechanism to forge tighter relationships between the two associations and their members and to better understand each other’s needs to a mutually rewarding business relationship’.

Sarah Golden, marketing and membership director of bira, said: “We’re always looking to strengthen our members’ relationships with suppliers, and this friendly inter-association golf competition is a great opportunity for both to build a better understanding of each other.”

BHETA executive DIY director Paul Grinsell added: “We’re pleased to be able to work more closely with bira and its members in a relaxed, business and networking event. With a hint of competitiveness thrown in I’m sure, we’re pleased to be engaging with such an initiative and hope that it will grow into a regular date in the calendar.”

Retailer and supplier teams of four are invited to participate. The cost for each team is £520 and will include: pre-game teas/coffees and bacon rolls, 18 holes of golf, halfway house refreshments, nearest the pin and longest drive competitions, complimentary golf balls, post-game drinks reception, three course post-game dinner and awards for the best performers on the day.

Interested parties should contact organiser Michael Dark, MDA Associates at mda.mail@virgin.net  or 01582 621121/07973 829184.
