Beales suffered a 6% fall in like-for-like sales in the 43 weeks to August 30, although they reveal an improving trend.
In the first 26 weeks of the financial year, like-for-likes at the department store retailer were down 6.4%.
Beales closed its Ealing store at the end of the last trading year, and if that branch’s performance is included, sales for the period decreased 14.8%.
Beales is currently taking a stronger promotional stance and focusing on tight management of expenses and assets.
Beales runs 11 stores, eight of which trade as Beales, in Bedford, Bournemouth, Horsham, Kendal, Poole, Tonbridge, Winchester and Worthing.
The remaining three trade as Broadbents & Boothroyds of Southport, Denners of Yeovil and Whitakers of Bolton.
