Barsleys celebrates 125 years

Barsleys department store in the west Kent town of Paddock Wood is celebrating its 125th anniversary with a host of events this month.

The retailer is running competitions and special anniversary promotions and is offering a free gift with purchase on Saturdays in April.

Other promotions include a ‘Step Back in Time’ heritage trail with the chance to win £125 worth of prizes, and a special display of artefacts, while staff will be dressed in Victorian costume.

The roots of Barsleys go back to 1891 when the family-owned business was founded by Charles Barsley. In Spring 2014, it undertook a big revamp with new flooring laid, many fixtures and fittings replaced and new fitting rooms introduced. More recently, new EPOS tills and software have been installed.

The 17,000sq ft store includes a 1,000sq ft cookshop department which is located alongside giftware, stationary, linens, furnishings, furniture and carpets.
