The Bakewell Baking Festival – billed as the world’s first and the UK’s premier baking festival – takes place this month.
The event, which is described as ‘a vintage, quirky and fun family festival celebrating baking and more’, will be held from Saturday August 13 to Sunday August 14 at the Bakewell Showground in the Derbyshire market town.
Over the weekend, the festival will host demonstrations from celebrated bakers including The Great British Bake Off 2015 winner Nadiya Hussain; the original Baker Off winner Edd Kimber; Stacie Stewart, author of best-selling book ‘Stacie Bakes’; and Tom Herbert who, with his brother Tom, makes up baking duo The Fabulous Baker Brothers. The pair runs Hobbs House Bakery near Chipping Sodbury in Gloucestershire.
Nigel Brown, food columnist for ‘The Lady’ magazine, will be the Master of Ceremonies throughout.
The event also features around 100 stalls of bakes, plus a cabaret night, comedy night, custard pie fight, book signings, gingerbread decorating classes, cake competitions, circus skills lessons and music from the Matlock brass band. Visit www.bakewellbakingfestival.co.uk for more information.
