Bake Off tie-in jumps back to top of bestselling cookbook sales chart

The official tie-in to the 2016 series of ‘The Great British Bake Off’ leads the way for cookbook sales in ‘The Mail On Sunday’ UK bestsellers list of non-fiction hardbacks.

At number three in the chart, ‘The Great British Bake Off – Perfect Cakes & Bakes To Make At Home’ is written by Linda Collister. Based on the BBC show, the book features over 100 recipes ‘from simple to show-stopping bakes and cakes’ provided by the show’s co-judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood and the contestants of 2016.

At number four is ‘The Hairy Bikers’ Chicken & Egg’ by Si King and Dave Myers.The celebrity cooking duo love both chicken and eggs so in this, their biggest cookbook yet, they celebrate ‘these most humble yet versatile of ingredients’. There are recipes for chicken soups and salads, roasts, grills and pies, everyday pasta and rice suppers, spiced dishes and ideas for making a little chicken go a long way. And to finish, there are puddings and cakes made with eggs.

In sixth position is ‘Eat Smart’ by Niomi Smart. In just over two years,Niomi’s smash-hit YouTube lifestyle channel has inspired thousands of followers to seek out a healthy way of living. At its centre lies Niomi’s ‘What I Eat in a Day’ series.

Now, for the first time, Niomi has written a cookbook introducing her approach to making food ‘fun, nourishing and absolutely delicious’. With every recipe created by Niomi herself, ‘Eat Smart’ covers breakfast through to dessert. Examples include Tropical Smoothie Bowl, Roasted Fennel, Lentil and Fig Salad, and Mauritian Curry with Coconut and Coriander Rice.

The eighth place is taken by ‘Family Sunday Lunches’ by Mary Berry. This book features over 150 recipes, from classic roasts (with all the traditional accompaniments) to Mary’s own family favourites for both informal meals and show-stopping feasts. The TV cook also shares her springtime starters, autumnal fruit pies, slow-cooked casseroles and light summer salads. Winter curries, garden buffets, vegetarian meals and desserts are included too.

In ‘The Mail On Sunday’ UK bestsellers list for non-fiction paperbacks, fitness guru Joe Wicks (aka The Body Coach) holds pole position.

At number one is ‘Lean in 15 – The Shape Plan: 15 minute meals with workouts to build a strong, lean body’ in which Joe shares 100 recipes and four workouts. And at number two is Joe’s ‘Lean In 15’, which features 15 minute meals and workouts.

In tenth place in the chart is ‘Nosh for Students – A Fun Student Cookbook’ by Joy May.This is the fourth edition of ‘Nosh for Students’: a book originally inspired by the author’s son, who left for university with no cooking skills. Since then, Joy has helped over 200,000 students get cooking with her straightforward and simple approach.

These book charts appeared in ‘The Mail on Sunday’s’ ‘Event’ magazine on September 25. They are compiled by Nielsen Bookscan TCM, which collates real time sales from over 6,500 retailers, representing over 90% of the UK book market.
