Nadiya Hussain, the 2015 winner of BBC1’s ‘The Great British Bake Off’, is joining the new series of ‘Junior Bake Off’ as a judge.
In the show, which is currently being filmed for transmission in the autumn, she will work alongside international chef and food writer Allegra McEvedy to assess the bakes of the budding young bakers,
Sam Nixon and Mark Rhodes will return to present the BAFTA award-winning series, which is made by Love Productions, producer of the hit format ‘The Great British Bake Off’.
‘Junior Bake Off’ airs on CBBC, a BBC children’s television strand aimed at children aged from six to 12. There are a total of 28 episodes in this fourth series, lasting 15 minutes each.
Forty of the country’s best junior bakers, aged from nine to 12, will enter the Bake Off tent. Over 10 heats, their cake-making, biscuit-baking, pastry-making and bread-making skills will be tested to the limit.
In each of the heats they will face two challenges: the Technical Bake and the Showstopper, where, while baking to the judges’ exacting briefs, they can let their imaginations run wild.
Only four junior bakers will make it through to the grand final and ultimately there will only be one winner of ‘Junior Bake Off’ 2016.
Nadiya Hussain said: “I’m delighted to be joining ‘Junior Bake Off’ as a judge. This time last year I was in the Bake Off tent and now I get to go back and help encourage the next generation to get their bake on. I’m so excited to have this opportunity.”
CBBC controller Cheryl Taylor commented: “The CBBC audience will be thrilled to see Nadiya join Allegra as the new Junior Bake Off judge. Nadiya is an exacting baker but is also a huge inspiration to a new generation of bakers. She is also a born entertainer – and I can’t wait to see her giving our young contestants and Sam and Mark a run for their money!”
