Avery Truman, the oldest independent store in Eltham, south London, has re-opened its doors with a new look and a new name – Avery Truman Home Hardware.

Avery Truman joins Home Hardware family

Having joined Home Hardware, the shop – still independently owned by Raj and Jag Gadher – will now be able to employ the buying strength and negotiating power of over 400 member stores.

The store was closed for the week prior to the re-launch to allow for a complete shop re-fit, new signage, new counters and fresh displays. Bunting and balloons marked the opening day, and a ribbon was cut by the longest-serving member of staff, Ron Bellfield, who has worked in the shop for 18 years. Flyers, balloons and lollipops were handed out to shoppers.

Joining the crowds were the original store owners, Michael Baulf and Ken Truman.
