ATCM appoints Shanaaz Carroll as permanent chief executive

The Association of Town & City Management (ATCM) has announced the appointment of Shanaaz Carroll as the new permanent chief executive.

She will take up the position immediately, having been in the acting position for 18 months and with the organisation for over four years.

ATCM chairman Alexander Nicoll said, ‘I and the board of ATCM are delighted that Shanaaz will continue her work on behalf of our membership in the capacity of chief executive.

“Shanaaz has demonstrated her qualifications for the role after participating in an advertised and open selection process.

“She has a sure grasp of issues of concern to all involved in the diverse world of place management covering, as it now does, partnerships and organisations with broad reach across public, private and third sectors.

“Under our banner ‘Helping People Make Great Places’, I’m confident that ATCM can build on its strengths under Shanaaz’s leadership as chief executive.
Shanaaz said: “I’m really excited to be taking on the permanent role at ATCM, having worked with and for the organisation for over 20 years. I have long admired the work of ATCM members and look forward to working collaboratively with all stakeholders and partners to put a spotlight on the breadth of disciplines and topics encompassed in town and city management.

“I’m passionate about places and want to build on the excellent work of the ATCM over the last 25 years, demonstrating the value of urban centres and representing our membership at all levels as the ‘go to’ body for town and city management.’
Shanaaz joined ATCM in February 2012 and was promoted to Deputy Chief Executive in April 2013. Joining the organisation from a career spanning the private and public sectors, she has accumulated vast experience in economic development and place management at local, regional and national levels, as well as knowledge and skills in areas from marketing to policy making.
