Andy Martin to join John Lewis Partnership board

John Lewis Partnership (JLP) has announced the appointment of Andy Martin as a non-executive director of the JLP board and chair of the audit and risk committee.

Andy succeeds Baroness Sarah Hogg who joined the board in 2011 and whose term of office ended on June 30.

He has worked as a chartered accountant and was group chief operating officer, Europe and Japan, for Compass Group until 2015, having previously been its group finance director from 2004 to 2012. Before joining Compass Group, Andy was group finance director at First Choice Holidays. Prior to that, he held a number of senior finance roles at Granada Group.

Since 2011, Andy has been a non-executive director of easyJet, chairing its finance committee. In 2016 he became a non-executive director at Intertek Group and chair of its audit committee, and senior independent non-executive director of global specialist recruitment company Hays in 2017.

Sir Charlie Mayfield, chairman of JLP, said: “I’m incredibly pleased that Andy will be joining the board. His wealth of business and financial experience will complement the strength of the board and we are looking forward to his input in shaping the continued development of our It’s Your Business 2028 strategy. I would also like to personally thank Baroness Hogg for the valuable contribution that she has made to the Partnership over the past seven years.”

The JLP board has three non-executive directors, chosen for their independence and external business experience. Andy now joins Keith Williams, who is also deputy chairman of the board, and Laura Wade-Gery.

JLP operates 50 John Lewis shops across the UK, johnlewis.com, 353 Waitrose shops, waitrose.com and business to business contracts in the UK and abroad. The business has annual gross sales of over £11.5bn and employs 85,500 staff.
