Despite the snow chaos, there was only a 2% drop in the number of trade visitors travelling to Frankfurt for this year’s Ambiente.
The decline was particularly marked in the case of domestic visitors, but the number from outside Germany rose significantly, accounting for over 47% of the total.
Over 133,000 buyers from all over the world made their way to the city for the February exhibition and the offerings of 4,504 exhibitors from 93 countries.
The Dining sector successfully moved into Halls 1 to 6 this year, with the expanding kitchen and housewares segments gaining from more exhibition space.
Most exhibitors and visitors said that business at Ambiente had been satisfactory to slightly above expectations. Around three-quarters of exhibitors polled said they had achieved their goals for the fair, with the high level of visitor inter¬nationality a particularly positive factor.
Special mention was also made of visitor quality, which climbed again this year – two-thirds of all visitors were top managers.
Sustainability was a key trend at the show, while kitchenware showed a classic, purist look, often in stainless steel, contrasting with a move towards bright colours like lilac, orange, red, lime and yellow. Black and white was also a strong look, while in kitchen cutlery the trend towards Japanese knives continued.
Ambiente 2011 will be held from February 11 to 15.
