The affairs, business and property of the company are now being managed by joint administrators Christopher Michael White & Andrew Philip Wood, of the P&A Partnership, 93 Queen Street, Sheffield, S1 1WF. Contact number: 0114 275 5033.

A tweet posted by the company at https://twitter.com/maturi_cookshop on March 22 reads: “Peter Maturi & Sons has ceased trading. Due to pressures of internet shopping and excessive business rates and rent, the shops are unsustainable.” A second tweet posted on the same date adds: “We would like to thank all our customers for their loyal support throughout the years & apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The business was founded in 1899 by Italian immigrant Peter Maturi who opened his first shop in Leeds. He passed away in 1956 but his family continued to build on the company that he created. Two more outlets opened in Victoria Shopping Centre at Harrogate in North Yorkshire, and King Street in Manchester, with an online presence at www.petermaturi.com.

Peter Maturi specialised in high-end cookware, bakeware, kitchen electricals, coffee machines, kitchen knives and utensils from brand names such as Le Creuset, Kitchenaid, Magimix, Jura, Gaggia, Robert Welch and Mauviel.

The P&A Partnership provides a comprehensive range of business financial solutions from Sheffield and has offices in Leeds, London, York and Glasgow.
