A tea cosy fit for the Queen’s birthday

HM Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her 90th birthday on April 21 and to commemorate this event, Poppy Treffry has designed a tea cosy using ribbon made in 1977, the Queen’s Silver Jubilee year, for the Union flag.

Designer-maker Poppy said she was inspired to choose pale blue for the tea cosy hue because “it was the colour the Queen wore when she visited St Ives [where Poppy Treffry is based]. It’s also the colour of the forget-me-nots which were in bloom all over the UK when the Queen was born in 1926.”

Poppy founded her company, which hand-makes a range of gifts and accessories featuring her illustrative designs, in 2004.

‘We use quality materials, local suppliers, simple, low impact production techniques and old style Singer sewing machines have been converted to electric. This makes each item unique,’ the company says.

‘There are always small details on Poppy’s embroidered designs and this tea cosy is no exception; on the back is a small embroidered crown.’

The 90th birthday tea cosy is made to order and costs £48.
