Waitrose launches ad campaign and opens new store

Total sales excluding fuel for Waitrose last week (to Saturday August 5) were 2.1% higher compared with the same week last year.

Property and development director Nigel Keen said activity was focused on the supermarket chain’s premium food range, Waitrose 1, during the second half of the week.

A national press and outdoor advertising campaign highlighted a 25% reduction across the entire Waitrose 1 range. This contributed to a 107% rise in sales of Waitrose 1 cakes.

Last Thursday (August 3) Waitrose opened a new convenience shop in the Surrey town of Addlestone.

The 6,000sq ft store provides more than 10,000 food and drink products, as well as a bakery and John Lewis ‘click and collect’ service for online purchases.

Waitrose is the first retailer to open at the new Addlestone One development in the town centre. The complex will include a hotel, gym, cinema, coffee shop, restaurant and apartments, together with a number of other stores.
