Tesco responds to Night Tube launch with 24-hour stores

From today (Friday August 19), Tesco will be opening several stores across London for 24 hours on Friday and Saturdays.

The trial is in response to the new Night Tube schedule, which will offer a 24-hour service on Fridays and Saturdays.

The first Night Tube services are now running on the Central and Victoria lines, with services on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines following in the autumn.

The supermarket chain will extend opening hours for seven stores along the routes of the Central and Victoria lines.

Transport for London said: ‘London is already a 24-hour city, and thanks to the huge investment to modernise the Underground, we are now rolling out a 24-hour Tube to match. Demand has soared over recent years, with passenger numbers on Friday and Saturday nights up by around 70% since 2000.”

To mark the launch of its extended hours, Tesco will set up ‘Hydration Stations’ at the front of the selected stores, running from 3am-7am today and tomorrow. Colleagues at the stores will be handing out Tesco’s freshly squeezed orange juice and bottled water.

Martin Smith, Tesco’s London convenience director, said: “London is such a vibrant and exciting place to live, work and visit, and the Night Tube provides people with a great way to experience the city at a time that suits them best.

“At Tesco we are always looking for new ways to serve London’s customers whenever it’s most convenient to them. That’s why we’re delighted to announce these new opening hours at select stores, helping to make life easier for those either working late or enjoying London’s nightlife.”
