Smurfit Kappa launches eco-friendly packaging alternative

New SKuffguard is a soft, non-abrasive liner for corrugated board that protects products from being scuffed, scratched or damaged whilst in the supply chain, and it means that extra inner protective packaging such as polystyrene or bubblewrap is not required.

The company says SKuffguard cuts down on extra packaging costs and means a less labour-intensive packing system, saving time. Unpacking is also quicker, resulting in increased efficiencies for retailers.

Less refuse is produced at the end of the supply chain, which will help retailers reduce their carbon footprint, and there is a single waste stream for recycling, which will help retailers be more efficient in waste disposal – the product is 100% recyclable.

In addition, due to the absence of the inner protective packaging, SKuffguard enables packs to be designed to fit snugly around a product, reducing the size and amount of packaging required. Such reductions in overall pack sizes could lead to better palletisation, allowing products to the shipped and stored more cost effectively.

SKuffguard is suitable for packing products made from glass, plastic or rubber, and painted products which are highly sensitive to scuffing and scratching.
