Sales of Easter decorations soar at John Lewis

With Christmas celebrations a few months behind us, Brits are gearing up for Easter – and it’s now a bigger event than ever before, according to John Lewis & Partners.

The department store group has reported that ‘more customers than ever before are viewing Easter as an opportunity to get together and celebrate with family and friends, and are decorating their homes in the same spirit as they do at Christmas’.

Sales of Easter decorations are already up 32% on last year and are expected to increase further this week, with Easter trees, wreaths and decorations all seeing significant sales rises.

John Lewis stationary and seasonal events buyer Lisa Rutherford said: “In a move on from the traditional Christmas tree, customers are now also dressing a tree for Easter.  Our White Decorative Tree has proved very popular, with sales up 80% compared with last year. We also have a brand new Blossom Tree for customers looking for something truly show-stopping.

“While we’re all used to exchanging chocolate eggs as gifts at Easter, we have also seen strong sales of our Easter soft toys. Sales have increased by 30% compared with the same time last year, as customers choose to purchase them as an alternative gift.”

The retailer’s home design stylist Bethan Harwood added: “Unlike the bold colours of Christmas, the colour palette of Easter tends to be much softer than Christmas, with lots of pastel tones. This year, lilac is the colour to be accessorising with.”

John Lewis has been hosting Easter activities in-store from Saturday (April 13) which run until tomorrow (Tuesday April 16). Events include egg hunts, food and drink tastings, personal styling and home design talks.
