Sainsbury’s launches edible flower range

Sainsbury’s has announced the arrival of its edible flowers range

Grown by local producers in the Vale of Evesham, the brightly coloured flowers include varieties such as tagete marigold, viola, dianthus, cornflowers, borage and nasturtium flowers.

All can be used in summer salads, as cake toppings or to garnish smoothies and cocktails.

The supermarket chain said: ‘Edible flowers are emerging as the food trend of-the-moment. Influenced by TV cookery shows and social channels like Pinterest, customers are now taking to their kitchens to create Instagram-worthy dishes. This range is the answer to any foodie’s dream for bringing a special Instagram touch to summer dishes.’

Vanessa Rider, Sainsbury’s buyer for edible flowers, added: “I’m confident that customers will love the instant summer glamour that our edible flowers will add.”
