Record sales growth boosts Morrisons’ market share

Supermarket Morrisons has grown its market share.
Figures from TNS Worldpanel show that the retailer has increased its slice of the market from 11% a year ago to 11.5%. Annual sales have also grown a record 11%.

TNS Worldpanel says Morrisons’ increase in share is the highest of any of the retailers measured and puts the results down to advertising, featuring Lulu and Alan Hansen, and strong promotions.

Meanwhile, the entire grocery market is bucking the retail downturn, with year-on-year growth of 6%. Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury all match this rate while Aldi, Lidl, Waitrose and Iceland are growing ahead of the market.
