While Home sales were down 5.2% for John Lewis last week (to Saturday June 17), the warm weather drove a 55% increase in outdoor living sales compared with last year.
The department store group’s buying director of Electricals and Home Technology (EHT) Johnathan Marsh said EHT sales were up 5.4%, fuelled by the release of new products from Apple – while the soaring temperatures drove fan sales up by 1,000% compared with last year.
He added that fashion sales were down 3% compared with the same week last year, due to the impact of different timings of a competitor price match promotion.
However, beauty sales were strong – up 7.9% – and warm weather clothing sales saw a 17% increase.
The retailer’s total sales for the week were £78.1 million: down 1.4% compared with last year.
