Alworths: too close to Woolworths for comfort

Solicitors acting for Shop Direct, which runs Woolworths as an online retailer, have written to Alworths saying that its name is too similar to that of Woolworths. According to the Financial Times, if it does not change its name it will face further legal action.

The first branch of Alworths, which is planning 50 stores, is set to open its doors this Thursday in Didcot, Oxfordshire.

Shop Direct says it has taken the action it has because it may itself want to revive Woolworths in the high street.

I wondered why they didn't use the old name! Clever as it sounds just like Woolworths. Is it the same as the one in Dorset? Same colours I think. They should just stick with the one name if it is.
