Lakeland names new buying & merchandising director

Housewares chain Lakeland has promoted merchandising manager Samm Swain to the post of buying & merchandising director.

Her appointment follows the departure of Matthew Canwell, who said goodbye to the company last year after 13 years of service as buying & merchandising director. Matthew joined housewares supplier Kitchen Craft as managing director last October.

Samm’s career spans almost 25 years, working for a number of well-known high street retailers before joining Lakeland in 2009.

Commenting on her appointment, she said: “After seven years at Lakeland, it’s a dream come true to take on the buying & merchandising director role. There are exciting times ahead and I look forward to leading our fabulous team as we continue to source innovative, extraordinary products for our customers.”

Lakeland chief executive officer Catherine Nunn added: “We’re thrilled to announce the internal appointment of this crucial role. Samm has worked extremely hard since joining the business in 2009, and her new position is incredibly well deserved. We all look forward to supporting her in both her new role and as a member of the board from February.”

The Windermere-based retailer has 69 stores nationwide in the UK, a further 16 stores trading successfully in the Middle East, a further three in India, 11 in Australia, and summer 2013 saw the brand launch in Germany with a dedicated German website lakeland.de
