The department store group’s director of merchandising operations Jon Williams said Home sales were down 2.3%, although BBQ sales were up 11% “as customers made the most of the warmer weather heading into the bank holiday weekend”.
He noted that Electricals & Home Technology sales were also up, rising by 8.2%. “Vision had a strong week, with sales up 20.4%,” he said, “and communication technology also saw growth of 20.9%, with both Apple and Windows products performing strongly.
Fashion sales lifted 12.8%, driven by the price-matching of a competitor’s promotional event. Beauty, wellbeing and leisure sales performed particularly strongly, up 22%, and both menswear and womenswear enjoyed double-digit growth.
