John Lewis weekly sales down 8.3%

Total sales at John Lewis & Partners were down 8.3% last week (to Saturday November 10).

The department store group’s operations director Dino Rocos blamed the performance on “unseasonably mild weather and the fact we were price-matching a competitor this time last year”.

Dino said: “Home sales were down 11.2%, again affected by the weather. However gift food was up 6.3%, with personalised Quality Street tins still proving popular.

“Electrical and Home Technology sales were down 2.8%, but mobile products saw a sales uplift, as did small electrical products and hardware accessories.

“Fashion sales were down 11.1% as the mild temperatures impacted cold weather sales. However premium women’s accessories were up 11% on last year, with watches and shoes both doing well.”

Shoppers can personalise their own Nestlé Quality Street tin and even customise its contents with favourite sweets, at selected John Lewis & Partners shops
